Crossing the Threshold Honor What Has Been, Tend What Is Becoming Reserve your Threshold →
Custom threshold ceremony for marking what matters · $495 (two-payment option available) · prep + 2.5-hour ceremony · remote via Zoom

Something has shifted.

♥

Maybe you fought tooth and nail to get here; maybe it arrived without your choosing. You have arrived at a crossing. Before you move on, stay here awhile. Something has happened that deserves your attention.

Thresholds ask something of us. Drop into your body. Stay here long enough to sense what is complete. Notice what still gives life. Be with the longing, tenderness, joy; notice the ache. Feel for who or what comes with you.

This is what we do in Crossing the Threshold. We take a sacred pause to be with what is here rather than rushing past, avoiding or pushing down what we have lived. This is how we live inside our own lives with more deliciousness, agency and power. It’s a 2.5 hour space (with pre-ceremony preparation) to celebrate and mourn, to look back and witness what you have lived, engage with what has shifted, what needs to be released, what wants to be remembered, or dreamed into being, and make room for the seedlings pushing through whatever sacred ground you find yourself standing on now.

Guided by artemisia shine — somatic practitioner and curandera whose work weaves embodied practice, intuition, ritual, mystery, and ancestral and cultural ways of knowing, with 15+ years of experience accompanying people through healing, transformation, and meaningful thresholds.

Meaningful moments deserve to be marked

You finish the hard thing. Close the chapter. Survive the year. Become more fully who you are, sometimes beyond what the institutions around you knew how to hold. Then you’re onto the next task. The crossing goes unmarked; what changed unwitnessed; the self who lived through it or fought to get here barely given time to arrive. Many of us move through enormous transitions inside cultures and institutions that offer little time or space to mark what has happened. The pressure to keep producing can make even life-changing passages disappear into the next task. That’s not an accident, and it’s not neutral.

“That’s not an accident, and it’s not neutral.”

For those of us shaped by the culture of white-body supremacy and institutions that measure our worth by what we bring to the table, even healing and growth can become another place to perform progress, forever oriented towards the next summit. Freedom does not require us to reproduce the conditions that exhaust us. Some moments aren’t for striving. They’re for pausing at the ridgeline: taking in the vista, enjoying the sunlight on your skin, tending your blisters, rehydrating, and letting yourself feel how far you’ve come before you walk on.

This is that pause, already sacred and real; tended with intention, accompaniment, and ceremony. Honoring your own passages is not indulgence. It’s essential to being human, and to remaining in relationship with your own life, what matters, and the people and worlds you belong to.

Maybe you’re at one now:

walking away from the institution, the title, or the “good job” that has been slowly draining your aliveness, and beginning to build something that’s actually yours
a year, season, or long chapter coming to an end, and wanting to pause long enough to notice what has truly changed
leaving a system, role, or relationship that extracted from you, asked you to shrink or perform, and refusing to keep abandoning parts of yourself in order to belong
honoring something joyful, hard-won, or subtle and life-changing that you do not want to rush past
a completion that has asked a great deal of you: a partnership dissolved, a degree finished, tending a beloved across the veil with presence and rigor, a book done, a practice launched, a body of work brought to fruition (maybe the exact thing they said you couldn’t do)
more fully embodying an identity, name, gender, lineage, truth, vocation, or way of being that wants to be lived OUT LOUD
tending grief, an anniversary, a death/transition, a loss, a medical diagnosis, or a relationship that has changed form and still matters deeply
returning to a part of yourself, a place, a practice, a relationship, or a way of knowing that feels newly alive
standing in the mystery of something that is not fully ending or beginning, but is undeniably changing
consciously closing a chapter, a relationship, a season of healing, or our work together, and tending what you want to carry forward

You don’t need to have it figured out, and you don’t need to arrive celebrating, certain, or ready to let go. Whether this is mostly triumph, mostly grief, or the tangle of both, you just need to sense that something big is turning — and to give it the reverence a crossing of this magnitude asks for.

What this is

We will craft a ceremony for you that fits the threshold you are crossing, your context, your cosmology, what your nervous system, mind and heart are longing to be held.

This is never a fixed protocol. (¡Nunca, jamás!) You are met in your wholeness. Your body didn’t get here by itself; neither did the rest of you.

Whatever you are here to mark, we won’t pull it out of the web of your life and pretend it happened to you alone or that this moment only merits a quick glance backward before you move on to what’s next. History, culture, place, ancestors, more-than-human kin, and the relationships that shaped your life are held in the room alongside you. Your grief isn’t a personal problem; your joy isn’t a party-of-one celebration. We center what has been, what is complete, what is still alive, and what you choose to carry forward. Here, care is held as central to sustainability; it is righteous for you to receive accompaniment and support.

Depending on what serves you, the session may weave reflection and writing, somatic inquiry, eco-therapy and nature-based ceremony, grief tending, celebration, art-making, movement and music, symbolic and ritual release, online ritual with objects and mementos you’ve gathered, medicine from my Mexica Indigenous heritage, and practices grounded in my ongoing study of Medicina Indígena Tradicional, curanderismo, and Mexicayotl in Jalisco, including limpia, drumming and rattle, tlemaitl/sahumerio (hand-held ceremonial hearth fire) with copal and other sacred herbs.

Across time, place, and peoples, humans have found ways to meet life’s crossings with ceremony.

Whatever shape the ceremony takes, we make room for the whole damn thing. What happened. How you lived it. What it cost and what it gave you. What is ending, and what isn’t. What still nourishes life. What you want to remember, carry, tend, bless, compost, or leave right where it is.

No two crossings look the same because our lives are incredibly nuanced. What is consistent is that we meet this together, with warmth, curiosity, reverence, and room for all of you; you don’t have to cross this alone.

In practice, this has looked like tending the anniversary of a hard loss — making room for rage, grace, and love all at once, and letting some beauty back in. It’s looked like facing the return of a loved one’s death date and deciding to orient toward continuing to live. It’s looked like closing a whole season of work by naming what’s shifted in the body over a year and celebrating it out loud. It’s looked like confronting the fear and bondage of offering healing services within a hierarchical institutional setting and owning their own power, medicine, and liberatory waymaking in private practice. And it has looked like a client leaving an old identity behind — building a fire, letting the old work burn, taking on a new name and owning who she was becoming. Yours will be its own.

How it goes

This session is for tending what’s grown and what’s wanting to emerge. The threshold you’re standing at is itself a fruit of seeds you set long ago or wild seeds that life has pushed through the cracks without your choosing. Here, we pause to honor the harvest, thank the version of you who lived through what brought you here, and tend what’s ready to be carried forward.

Your ceremony begins with care and preparation after you reserve your Threshold session, before we even meet for the ritual itself.

1

After you book, you’ll receive a pre-session inquiry — questions to sit with, journal, walk with, speak aloud, or voice-note, in whatever way feels most accessible and within your capacity. (When you’re ready, you send me what you have written or transcribed.) It invites you to listen beneath the surface of your own becoming: what you’ve lived through, reclaimed, outgrown, what remains and what’s beginning to germinate. There are no wrong answers, nothing to perform. (About 30–90 minutes, returned at least 36 hours before our pre-ceremony call so I can arrive grounded and attuned to you.)

2

Once you’ve turned in your pre-session inquiry, we will have a 30-45 minute Guided preparation call to co-create the ceremony — feeling into the ritual, the elements, the objects, the music, and the shape that will bring your threshold to life. No two are alike, because no two thresholds or lives are. (We will have at least five days of lead time from this conversation before your ceremony to allow you to gather, dream, perhaps be with a personalized practice (shared during your ceremony prep call), and generally prepare.)

3

Crossing the Threshold Ceremony: In our 2.5 hours together, we move through the crossing with intention — honoring and celebrating what you’ve grown, tending what’s grieving or complete, releasing what’s ready to be set down with reverence, and tending what you’re carrying forward. This is a space to be accompanied and compassionately witnessed in your grief, gratitude, tenderness, joy, reverence, and the truth of now. It’s paced to you, and you’re in choice the whole way.

We gather to consciously mark this threshold; to be with the fullness of this moment in your life without racing past its significance.

The intention is to be on this ridgeline, to feel how the wind is playing with your hair, the hunger or thirst that may be present, the rocks that may have collected in your boots, to witness the terrain you walked to get here, and to notice the wild world around you without losing it in pursuit of the next summit. Together we face life as it actually is, without generating a task list, but with the transition honored in your body and soma: with more clarity about what you want to carry forward, more intention with what you’re leaving behind, and more understanding of what supports to call in (ancestors, practices, kin) as you move toward what comes next.

Who it’s for

This session is open to anyone who is standing at a threshold that matters, whether or not we’ve worked together before.

My practice intentionally centers people historically excluded from healing spaces and community care by the dominant overculture, and continually demanded to shrink within in — Black, Indigenous, and people of color/culture; queer, trans, and disabled folks; healers, organizers, artists, and caregivers building lives and work in systems and circumstances that aren’t designed to tend to our well-being, much less our thriving. If you are ready to meet this moment with presence, I am here to walk with you in relationship.

It has held people through grief anniversaries, the return of a cycle of loss, coming out and taking on a truer name, walking away from institutions that extracted from them, and the conscious close of a season of healing. And it’s a way to honor the end of our work together (or this phase of our mentorship), if you’re a client crossing into what’s next. Whatever you’re leaving, becoming, celebrating, or grieving, you do not have to cross it alone. It is justice to widen the field of care to include all of you in this crossing.

Who guides this

artemisia shine

I’m artemisia shine — somatic therapist, mentor, liberation warrior, curandera, chingona, and the founder of Wild Heart Healing Arts.

For more than 15 years, I’ve accompanied people through grief, healing, transformation, endings, beginnings, and the messy, beautiful terrain in between.

My work has grown through years of somatic and nervous-system practice, grief tending, eco-therapy, Reiki, yoga and embodied movement, Nonviolent Communication, community organizing, justice work, and ceremony. My ceremonial practice is also rooted in my ongoing study and practice of Medicina Indígena Tradicional, herbal medicine, curanderismo, and Mexicayotl here in Jalisco, México, where my own ancestors were born and returned to the agave-kissed earth for thousands of generations. I began this formal study through AMITA and continue studying traditional medicine and herbalism with my teacher through Salud Nativa. I was initiated by Abuela Tere Rivas (Chicahuaxochitl) into the Linaje de Curanderas de Pies Descalzos, and I continue learning and practicing in community with Maestro Opalmitzin (Rosalío Albarrán) through Mexicayotl, filosofía náhuatl, temazcal, ceremony, and other living practices, where I continue learning in community, practice, and relationship.

I work outside a pathology-based clinical model on purpose. I don’t believe your body, grief, sensitivity, survival strategies, or becoming are problems to diagnose or fix.

I understand us as relational beings shaped within our culture, history, land, and systems, by our ancestors, communities, relationships, and our more-than-human kin. We are not hurt in a silo, and we don’t heal in isolation. As Robin Wall Kimmerer says, “All flourishing is mutual.”

The freedom from pathology allows us to orient from the intelligence of what is alive in your body, honoring the adaptive strategies you have developed over a lifetime to cope with your lived experience, to expand our support beyond my tending to include the living world, to acknowledge the harmful systems that attempt to locate the injuries they cause within us as personal pathology to make room for the unseen realms including energy, sensation, culture, place, ancestry and the deep cyclical hummm of life.

I am not here to tell you what your threshold means.

I bring experience, fierce love, intuition, somatic attunement, ceremony, creativity, and a willingness to follow what is actually alive. You bring the wisdom of your body, your relationships, your people, your practices, your cosmology, and your own knowing. We listen together.

I’ve been walking alongside people at thresholds for decades (well beyond my private practice). This container gives you the time, preparation, ritual, and reverence that you and this deserve.

Questions You May Have

Can ceremony really hold depth over Zoom?
+
Yes. We prepare your space together beforehand, and you gather your own elements — fire, water, earth, objects, mementos — on your end, so the ritual lives in your hands, in your home or in the environment of your choosing. Being remote doesn’t thin the ceremony; it roots it where you actually live or where life is calling you to be with this.
What if I have specific spiritual, religious, or cultural practices I do (or don’t) want included?
+

You do not need to share my cosmology or spiritual practices for this work to be meaningful. We shape the ceremony in relationship with your beliefs, values, culture, boundaries, ways of knowing, and what holds meaning for you. You can tell me what you want included, what you do not want included, and what you are unsure about. Your Pre-Session Inquiry and Guided Preparation Call give us space to explore together what might feel meaningful and supportive, what would not, and what you’re curious about.

That might mean incorporating music, poetry, photographs, meaningful objects or mementos, flowers, food, particular colors or symbols, elements from the natural world, divination or tarot, ancestral or family practices, prayer, scripture, or something meaningful to you that you wouldn’t call spiritual at all—or none of those things. It might also mean choosing not to use particular herbs, smoke, ritual forms, language, spiritual references, divination practices, or practices from the medicine I carry.

Nothing is slipped into the ceremony without your knowledge. We talk about what I am considering during the preparation process, and you are welcome to say yes, no, or “not that.” And consent doesn’t end when the ceremony begins. If something doesn’t feel right once we’re in it, we can pause, change course, or leave it out. The ceremony should feel congruent enough with who you are and what you need that you can actually be present inside it.

What if my threshold doesn’t feel “big enough”?
+
If something in you is asking to be marked, it’s big enough. A hushed grief, a private ending, a celebration that never had the cheering section your heart longed for, a turn only you can feel — these deserve ceremony as much as the loud, obvious milestones. You don’t have to justify it.
What if I don’t know exactly what I’m marking yet?
+
You don’t need to arrive with perfect language for what is happening. Sometimes you know exactly what has ended or begun; sometimes you only know that something has shifted and you can’t keep moving as though it hasn’t. Your Pre-Session Inquiry and Guided Preparation Call give us space to listen for what is asking to be marked, what may be complete, what is still alive, and what this particular crossing is asking of you. Not knowing yet can be part of the threshold.
What if something unexpected comes up during the ceremony?
+

Crossing the Threshold is a therapeutic ceremonial container. I bring more than 15 years of experience as a somatic practitioner, counselor, curandera, and healer into the room with me, and I draw from the skills, practices, and internal and external resources available to support whatever is actually showing up in the moment.

We gather with a particular intention: to mark and tend a crossing in your life. Ceremony is alive, and we don’t have to keep your experience inside predetermined lines. Grief may surface. Joy may take up more room than you expected. Your body may ask for something different than we planned. Something may emerge that needs slowing down, witnessing, movement, grounding, reflection, or care. I meet you there. You do not need to have been or be in an ongoing healing relationship with me to participate.

The ceremony gives us a container and an intention; it doesn’t limit the range of your humanity that is welcome inside it.

Do I need experience with ceremony or ritual?
+
Not at all. You don’t need to know how to build an altar, work with ritual, choose the “right” objects, or have a particular spiritual practice. We figure out together what will support your ceremony through the Pre-Session Inquiry and Guided Preparation Call. I’ll guide you through what you need to prepare and gather, and during the ceremony itself, you won’t need to know what comes next. You get to be the person crossing the threshold, not the person responsible for orchestrating it.
Is this a lot of homework?
+
No. The pre-session reflection is part of the preparation, but it’s not a performance or a long-form autobiography. Respond in whatever depth is within your capacity. The more thorough you are, the more prepared I can be. I shape the ceremony based on our collaboration in the pre-ceremony call, the medicine I carry to walk in the mystery, the depth of my training and experience, and the support of my ancestors at my back. You bring yourself.
Do you offer a supported rate?
+

If the full $495 investment is outside your financial capacity, you are invited to request community-supported access and tell me what you can sustainably contribute. Request support here.

If $495 is within your financial capacity but paying it all at once is the barrier, please choose the two-payment option to support expanded access.

Each year, I personally commit up to $1,000 to help make community-supported access possible. Unless others contribute to the fund, that support comes directly from me through revenue I choose not to receive for my labor in addition to the direct expenses I personally absorb in preparing and holding each ceremony.

You do not need to provide financial documentation, explain your circumstances, or prove hardship. I do ask that you consider your contribution in the spirit of mutuality: request the support you genuinely need while keeping in mind this is a shared resource.

I share this because mutuality matters to me. I believe our thriving is mutual: your access matters, and so do my labor, resources, and capacity. I want you to have enough information to ask for what you genuinely need while keeping what I am carrying visible within our relationship. Asking for what you need includes neither stretching yourself beyond what is sustainable nor asking the fund to carry what is reasonably within your own financial capacity.

Community-supported access is available as resources allow. Contributions from others increase the support I can make available.

How does the two-payment option work?
+
You can pay the $495 investment in full or choose two monthly payments of $247.50. Your first payment serves as your non-refundable deposit and allows you to reserve your ceremony date. The second payment is charged automatically one month later; your ceremony does not need to be paid in full before we meet.

What people carry away

“

The threshold crossing I honored with artemisia was asking me to remember: my wholeness, my core reasons for being and the way I most fully embody those core values.

Part of what stood out to me most was the intentionality with which we prepared for the threshold crossing. I took time to visit geographic places that hold lineage in my bones; to gather elements—fire, water, herbs, flowers, sand—and create an altar specific to this crossing.

The ceremony itself is still with me two months later. It supports me in my practice of remembering: where I am going, why I am moving in the ways I am, and that there are people able to accompany me in the new ways I am walking without having to make the versions I am walking away from wrong or bad.

Together, we breathed, I danced, we cried, and wind, rain, ocean, seagulls and crow accompanied these movements. It was a profound honoring of deeper healing work I’d been showing up for, and a joyful invocation of meeting the unknown-next.

I have never intentionally honored change in this way, and by doing so, I feel closer to change, and to trust.

Thresholds ask us to listen for what is complete, notice what’s still alive, and choose what we carry forward. Honoring yours is not a luxury, and it is not self-indulgence. Marking a passage is a powerful way to choose to stay in relationship with your own life, with living ecosystems, with what matters, what is becoming, and the reciprocity that sustains us. And for some of us, it’s how we keep the inner fire lit to make a material difference in our own lives and continue walking towards a world meant for all of us.

You are worthy of this honoring. You are worthy of this pause. You are worthy of the fullness of your own becoming.

Con cariño, fierce love + embodied reverence,
